Prescription Drop Off
Disposing of extra medications correctly both protects natural resources and keeps medications out of children's hands.
Expired blue and white pills surrounded by smoke and flame.
Citizens may drop off their prescription drugs from  7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day of the week.

A Prescription Drug Drop-Off Box is installed in the Sheriff’s Office Lobby located at  1300 Southwest 14th Street Bentonville, AR 72712. The box will be located just inside the main entrance of the jail lobby. The service is free to the public and allows citizens to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. According to the  2013 National Survey Drug Use and Health, more Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

The  National Institution on Drug Abuse reports that 62% of teens abuse prescription drugs because they are easy to get from their parents' medicine cabinet. Prescription drugs are also often considered a gateway drug, with nearly half of heroin users reporting to have abused prescription drugs before beginning to use heroin.

"It can be dangerous to keep unused prescription medication. These pills need to be properly disposed of to avoid them falling into the wrong hands and harming loved ones or the environment, which is why I encourage Arkansans to clean out their medicine cabinets..."   Attorney General Rutledge
